Every second Easter, Leeton holds the SunRice Festival, celebrating our region and all it has to offer. This year Tamara Bartram, an employee at Yenda Producers in Leeton, took on the challenge of raising funds for the region as part of the Ambassador Quest, where she was one of five entrants. With the support of her sponsoring committee, the Leeton & District Bowling Club, she raised funds for her chosen charity Can Assist as well as other local organisations.
The fundraising began on the 1st December 2019 and was set to conclude on Easter Saturday. The fundraising continued into this year, up until it came to a standstill due to the current circumstances. During the 4 months of fundraising, Tamara held a range of events and raffles in her efforts to raise as much money as possible for the community. At the end of the fundraising, the money raised is distributed to the chosen charities, the sponsoring committees, and other local organisations.
Last Thursday, via the Zoom Meeting App, the SunRice Festival Committee held the announcement of the 2020 SunRice Festival Ambassadors. Collectively, the five ambassadors raised just over $72,000, with Tamara raising $25,077 of that amount. This saw Tamara being announced as the 2020 Highest Fundraiser.
